Cable & Wireless and University of Seychelles signed an Integrated Communication Solution Memorandum of Understanding to commemorate World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

Cable & Wireless, Seychelles’ leading communications provider and the University of Seychelles will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding on the provision of an Integrated Communication Solution on Monday 17th May, 2010 to commemorate World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

The main objective to this project is to provide a full Telecom Solution for the Seychelles University Campuses, which will includes, fixed lines services, mobile services (DECT), BlackBerry solution, IPBased PABX, Wi –FI and High speed Internet access to the University campus at Anse Royale and the School of Education (former NIE at Mont Fleuri). “This sponsorship initiative complements the free broadband internet for states schools initiative which we started 3 years ago. As a responsible Corporate Citizen this is an opportunity to proactively contribute in the creation of a knowledge base society and bridge the digital divide” said Charles Hammond –Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless. This sponsorship agreement is not only a call by the President for donation, but will further help to relieve the huge budgetary constraints allowing the University of Seychelles to focus and invest in outsourcing lecturers, books, computers and other learning tools.

The agreement also covers the sponsorship of 2 fulltime scholarship for two students, whilst its main objectives of the project are entails the sponsorship of an operational Telecommunication Solution to the Seychelles University, which Cable & Wireless will take ownership of ordering, installing and commissioning and maintenance. Under the agreement which carries a monetary value exceeding SR2m, all assets remains property of Cable & Wireless.

The Seychelles University Foundation is an initiative from the President of Seychelles, Mr. James A. Michel, and was officially launched on the 18th June 2007, on the occasion of the Seychelles National Day by President himself and the Seychelles University Foundation was the body which was mandate to establish the first University of Seychelles.
